A 43-year-old native from Samar, a 29-year-old female physical education teacher, a jobless guy from Mandaluyong City. They are among the hopefuls aiming to make it to the all-Filipino basketball team that will vie for the Guinness World Record title of "longest marathon playing basketball." The record is for the longest time to continuously play basketball using FIBA rules. The Philippines hopes to break the record currently held by the Missouri Athletic Club in Saint Louis, Missouri, U.S.A which is 112 hours and 13 seconds which they won in March 2012. The local team will attempt to play basketball non-stop for five days or more from March 24 to 28, 2014 at the Meralco Gym. From 330,000 applicants, the number was trimmed down to 100 for formal try-outs followed by more cuts. ABS-CBN News captured on video the latest strength and endurance training of the last batch of hopefuls, wearing blue and white uniforms with the words "Walang Iwanan" on the front of the shirt. According to guidelines, there should be two teams of 12 players each, male or female, 16 years old and above. There should be five on five players on the court at any point during the record-breaking attempt. Players not involved in the play should stay in the courtside at all times where they can sleep and eat, except for five-minute comfort breaks and medical emergencies. In an interview by ABS-CBN News' TJ Manotoc, the hopefuls said that aside from skill, they believe that experience, willpower and the right mind set will help the team to break the Guinness World Record. The event is also being held to help raise funds for the survivors of typhoon Yolanda. With a report from TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News.
