Search operations ongoing for Malaysia Airlines plane
  • 5 years ago
MANILA, Philippines – The Malaysia Airlines plane that disappeared more than 30 hours has not yet been found. Flight MH 370 was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, but authorities lost contact with it shortly after its departure. There were 227 passengers and 12 crew members on board, more than half of them Chinese. China, Vietnam, Singapore and the Philippines are all helping Malaysia in the search and rescue operations. The United States is also sending navy ships. Earlier, Vietnam said its rescue planes spotted two large oil slicks, but it is unclear if they are connected to the missing plane. Malaysia Airlines says the plane was last inspected 10 days ago and was ‘in proper condition.’ There were also no reports of bad weather, signs of sabotage, or claims of a terrorist attack. But two of the passengers – an Austrian and an Italian who were listed on the manifest – were actually not on the plane. Both had reported their passports stolen. -- News Now, ANC, March 9, 2014.
