The driver of the Florida bus that fell in Bontoc, Mountain province blamed mechanical failure for the February 7 accident which left 15 people dead. At the hearing of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Tuesday morning, Edgar Renon claimed he was only driving at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour on the way down the mountain when his brakes suddenly malfunctioned. The driver added he refused to heed the passengers' calls to slam the bus on the mountainside because he was trying to steer the vehicle to a safer spot. ANC Dateline Philippines, March 4, 2014
