President Aquino kicked off a second day of visits to disaster-hit areas as part of celebrations to mark the 28th anniversary of the People Power Revolution. On Tuesday morning, he visited Cebu, his first since Typhoon Yolanda struck parts of the Visayas last year, which left over 6,000 people dead. The traditional "salubungan," a reenactment of the civilians and military joining forces to topple the Marcos dictatorship, was held at the Cebu Capitol. Actor Dingdong Dantes played the role of then Armed Forces deputy chief of staff Fidel Ramos while Senator Bam Aquino played the role of his uncle, former Senator Butz Aquino, one of the civilian leaders who linked up with the military on EDSA in 1986. In his speech, President Aquino explained why he chose to hold the commemoration in Cebu. He said it was in Cebu where then opposition leader Cory Aquino campaigned for civil disobedience and sought refuge in a Carmelite convent at the start of the uprising. After the festivities at the capitol, the president proceeded to Bantayan Island in northern Cebu to inspect boats donated to fishermen who lost their livelihood due to Yolanda. The president also denied reports typhoon survivors in northern Cebu have not received government aid. Aquino is also expected to head to Leyte and Eastern Samar, areas also ravaged by Yolanda, to hold townhall meetings. - ANC News Now, 25 February 2014
