Wawrinka leads shake-up in tennis rankings

MANILA, Philippines – Stanislas Wawrinka posed with his Australian Open tennis men’s singles title trophy after defeating Rafael Nadal to win his maiden Grand Slam title. Wawrinka’s victory undermined the superiority of the so-called Big Four in men’s tennis. His wonderful fortnight in Melbourne has propelled him to third in the rankings. Despite the loss, Nadal is cemented at No. 1, while Novak Djokovic, whose bid for a fourth consecutive Australian Open was thwarted by Wawrinka, remains at No. 2. Andy Murray and Roger Federer fall to sixth and eighth, respectively. -- Mornings @ ANC, January 28, 2014.
