Tacloban eyes new evac centers ahead of typhoon
  • 5 years ago
Flooding hit parts of Tacloban City, which is still reeling from the effects of super typhoon "Yolanda." City officials said heavy rainfall last Saturday caused floods of up to a foot and a half in some areas. Officials assured residents they have been working on the city's waterways so they can drain floodwaters quickly. They have also drawn up contingency plans and identified new evacuation centers in case another typhoon hits the city. "There is this trauma that a lot of our people have, particularly those who are living in tent cities. The mayor personally went around, our team went around the tent cities and a lot of people were fearing that another typhoon was coming in. They were really scared. We had to reassure them that it's just a low pressure area and that we have identified other evacuation centers in case the rains get really hard and it really starts flooding really badly, that we will be evacuating them immediately," City Administrator Tecson John Lim said in an interview on Mornings@ANC. Lim said the city is still in Band-aid mode, with very few homes having undertaken permanent repairs. MORNINGS@ANC, January 14, 2014
