More than 100 houses razed in Lapu-Lapu City fire

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – More than a hundred houses were burnt down in a raging fire at Sitio San Roque, Barangay Basak in Lapu Lapu City early Tuesday morning. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that over 100 houses have been razed by the fire that started past 2:00 a.m. and raged for over an hour before being put under control. Ten fire engines were brought in to fight the flames, and more had been called in from Cebu City, Consolacion, Compostela and Liloan. The fire was declared under control at 3:17 a.m. Authorities are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, which started at around 2:25 a.m. at the house of a certain Jocelyn Tomial. Barangay Captain Isabelito Darnayla said that close to 1,000 individuals were affected by the fire. They are now staying in the barangay gym, where they will likely spend the New Year’s Eve. The BFP has yet to determine the total damages to property. Nobody was reported injured in the fire.
