Frost hits vegetables, farms in Benguet
MANILA -- Farmers and vegetable growers in Benguet have expressed concern as frost caused by low temperature hit their produce. The worst hit was Barangay Paoay, where farmers said frost has damaged up to 90 percent of their farms. In Atok, some plants have already frozen as temperature dipped to 9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, New Year's day. They said they cannot afford to put up their own greenhouse, which could cost them around P250,000 to P500,000. Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture assured that supplies of vegetables are enough despite the reported cases of frost-damaged farms in Benguet. -- Report from Diane Rivera, ABS-CBN News Northern Luzon
