All major airports in Visayas now operational

MANILA, Philippines - The Tagbilaran airport in Bohol has reopened after temporarily shut down due to the earthquake that stuck the Visayas region. Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines director general John Andrews said the airport is fully operational but only one aircraft is allowed to be on the tarmac at a time. "All the other major airports in the Visayas are operational now and for Tagbilaran, the latest update I have received, the airport has opened as of 1035 this morning," he told ANC. "It is limited operation in the sense that we can only allow one aircraft on the ground at one time," he added. He said a portion of the terminal's roof on the second floor collapsed, but airport personnel have already cleared the area of debris. The runways have also been checked and no cracks were found. Meanwhile, Andrews said all other airports in the Visayas are fully operational. However, he said he has yet to get a clearer assessment of the situation at the Mactan airport, which reportedly also sustained damage. - ANC
