DSWD braces for 'Santi'

MANILA - The Department of Social Welfare and Development on Friday said it is now prepositioning emergency relief goods before Typhoon "Santi" makes landfall. Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman said the DSWD has already prepositioned P156.13 million worth of emergency relief resources consisting of P12 million standby fund, 37,858 family food packs worth P9.39 million, other food worth P25 million and non-food items worth P109.71 million for augmentation to local government units that will be affected by the disaster. Seven areas in Luzon have been placed under public storm warning signal number 3 due to "Santi." PAGASA said the provinces of Aurora, Isabela, Quirino, Ifugao, Nueva Viscaya, Benguet and Nueva Ecija have been place under signal no. 3 and will experience 100 kph-185kph winds in 18 hours. PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said stormy weather will be experienced in Central and Northern Luzon tonight with the expected landfall of Santi between Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
