Ermita: Not my job to check Malampaya fund use

MANILA - Former Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita is washing his hands off the Malampaya fund mess as he faces plunder charges over the controversial fund. Ermita had written to former budget secretary Rolando Andaya in 2009 to inform him about using the fund for calamity relief and rehabilitation efforts. He said it was not his job to follow up with implementing agencies on how the Malampaya fund was spent. "That is not necessarily the function anymore of the Executive Secretary. It would follow that agencies, the implementing agencies to which the funds were released would be reporting to their usual periodic reports about the result as well as how they utilized the funds that were released by Department of Budget," he said.
