Miriam on Enrile: He's about to meet his maker

MANILA - Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago on Thursday said she does not believe she will ever become friends with her political nemesis, Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile. Asked why they won't ever be friends, Santiago said: "Because he's about to meet his maker." Santiago admitted that she and Enrile have not seen each other in the Senate since she took a leave of absence for chronic fatigue. She said her chronic fatigue leaves her so exhausted that she needs to lie down after a speech or press conference after 1-2 hours. "I am sort of punished for being active. I have lost my day. After this, I have to go home and lie in bed whether I feel like it or not," she said. Santiago and Enrile have been at odds after taking different positions on various issues. Last year, Santiago criticized Enrile for disbursing millions of pesos in additional maintenance and other operating expenses (MOEE) funds as Christmas bonuses to all but 4 senators "whom he hates on sight." The 4 senators are Santiago, Sen. Alan Cayetano, Sen. Pia Cayetano and Sen. Antonio Trillanes. ANC HEADSTART, October 3, 2013
