Watch: Daring rescue in Gerona, Tarlac
MANILA -- A routine day at work turns into a life and death situation for six employees of the Tarlac Electric Cooperative. The workers were fixing a power line when they were caught in a sudden swell of water along the Gerona river. Efforts to rescue them using rubber boats were unsuccessful because of the strong current. Authorities decided to use a helicopter to airlift them to safety. But everything was far from smooth. An employee sustained minor injuries but the six workers were plucked out of the raging waters. The 20 members of the Army, Air Force and Navy who were part of the rescue operation will be honored.
