Marty's Place - A Senior Dog Sanctuary

Inspired by a senior dog named Marty, Marty’s Place is a sanctuary “providing old friends with a loving home for life.” This active senior dog community in Upper Freehold Township, New Jersey, takes in dogs age 7 and older, and provides them with companionship, physical and emotional comfort, and the enrichment they need to thrive in their golden years.
“When a dog comes into Marty’s place, we embrace them as if they’ve been our own for a long time”, founder Doreen Jakubcak explains. “We remind them for as long as they are here they will be loved and they will have a home.”
Staffed by loving volunteers, each dog is groomed, has extended play and exercise time, and receives carefully monitored nutrition and health care. The Family Room is Marty’s central hangout where the dogs can socialize with each other and the volunteers, or comfortably relax to a belly rub with a friendly human.
The facility has over 25 acres of woods for the dogs to roam, and an in-ground pool for water exercises. They host various fundraising events throughout the year, including a “Ruff Mudder” obstacle course and “Howl-o-ween,” where people bring their children and pets in costume for all sorts of fall fun.
Volunteer Pam Bowski, who has a senior dog at home, is thrilled to be part of the love and care Marty’s Place provides for each of their residents. “Each one has their own personality,” she noted. “They’re just really sweet and if fills my heart up. I’m blessed to have found this place.”
