N. Korea may have reloaded, reprocessed used nuclear fuel rods to make bombs: Kyodo
  • 5 years ago
North Korea has reportedly removed used fuel rods from its main Yongbyon nuclear complex to get a fresh source of plutonium,... the radioactive chemical element necessary to produce nuclear weapons.
Japan's Kyodo News Agency,... citing sources with close knowledge about the inner-workings at the IAEA, says it's possible North Korea removed between three to six-thousand used fuel rods from the complex.
If re-processed,... this amount is enough to make one or more atomic bombs.
The IAEA is reportedly monitoring the North to see if removed the used rods and put fresh ones into the complex's reactors.
Such a move, if confirmed, would be a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
