South Korea wins its first world championships medal for race walking... eight years after the race finished.
According to the International Association of Athletics Federations on Tuesday, Kim Hyun Sub was recognized as a bronze medalist 8 years after competing in the 2011 Daegu World Championships... as three athletes who finished ahead of him were disqualified of their records due to doping.
Kim finished the men's 20-kilometer race walk in sixth place in 2011.
But in 2016, he was lifted to fourth place after the gold and silver medalists from Russia tested positive for illegal substances.
With another Russian bronze medalist failing a drug test recently, Kim was moved up to third place.
The IAAF will hold a medal ceremony for the new medalist in the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, next month.
