The Quint: Glittering Beating Retreat Ceremony Ends Republic Day Festivities
  • 5 years ago
Every year, 29 January is the day when the four-day long celebration of the Republic Day comes to an end with the “Beating the Retreat” ceremony.
This year, 16 military bands, 16 pipes and drums bands from regimental centres and battalions participated in the event, which ended with the lighting of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Raisina Hill.
The music compositions are mostly done by Indians and the function is widely attended, much like the 26 January parade.\
