Miley Cyrus References Breakup
in New Single ‘Slide Away’ .
On Aug. 16, Miley Cyrus dropped a new single, “Slide Away,”
which seems to be about her recent split from Liam Hemsworth.
In the song, Cyrus hints at the turmoil
of their relationship, repeatedly
singing that “it’s time to let it go.” .
Once upon a time, it was paradise / Once upon
a time, I was paralyzed / Think I'm gonna
miss these harbor lights / But it's time to let
it go / Once upon a time, it was made for
us / Woke up one day, it had turned to dust, Miley Cyrus, "Slide Away".
Cyrus also references her age
when they first began dating in
2010, singing “we’re not 17,
I’m not who I used to be.”.
The track then goes on to seemingly confirm
recent insider reports that Hemsworth’s heavy
use of substances is to blame for the pair’s split. .
I want my house in the hills / Don't want
the whiskey and pills / I don’t give up
easily / But I don't think I'm down, Miley Cyrus, "Slide Away".
Throughout the song, Cyrus repeatedly urges
her ex to “slide away / back to the ocean,”
while she will “go back to the city lights.” .
This further ties Hemsworth to the song, as
his love of the ocean and beach is well-known,
while Miley is known for her love of the city.
