The South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises named "Combined Command Post Training" will take place for ten days starting Sunday.
Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said today that the exercises will be computer-based simulations to verify South Korea's initial capacity to prepare for the transfer of wartime operational control from Washington to Seoul.
For the first time, a South Korean general will serve as the commander, and an American general, the vice commander.
The name of the exercises was originally thought to be "nineteen-dash-two DongMaeng" -- a Korean word meaning 'alliance' -- but the name was changed considering the North's continued criticisms of the joint exercises and the impact they may have on denuclearization talks.
