South Korea has called on the North to begin the operation of the inter-Korean military committee as soon as possible.
At a press briefing earlier today, Seoul's unification ministry said the joint body, which was agreed to be formed at the inter-Korean summit last September, should start running quickly to build military confidence between the two Koreas.
This comes after the North's reunification committee issued an official statement on Thursday for the first time in three months slamming South Korea for raising tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
It blamed Seoul for conducting joint exercises with the U.S., calling them "aggressive war rehearsals", and for adopting high-tech weapons despite their agreement to lower tensions.
