Jecheon International Music and Film Festival kicks off in Jecheon

To tell us more about what's happening in South Korea right now,... we have our Won Jung-hwan here in the studio with us.
So Jung-hwan, what do you have for us today?
Hi Mark, I'm here in the studio today to tell you about an annual film festival held in the city of Jecheon, Chungcheongnam-do Province.
The Jecheon International Music and Film Festival,… has been held every year since 2005 to introduce the latest films across all genres in which music plays a central role.
The festival screens outstanding music-based films from dramas and documentaries to animations and experimental films.
The festival runs from today until August 13th, with Jecheon's beautiful Cheongpungho Lake as a fitting backdrop.
And one of the committee members says,... this time, visitors will be able to get closer to the festival than ever before.
"This year marks the festival's 15th anniversary,... and under the slogan of 'Into the Citizens', we've prepared some programs to be held in downtown to get even closer to the visitors."
Can you tell us what is so special about this year's edition?
Well this year's festival is expected to be the largest in the festival's history, with more than 120 films from nearly 40 countries being screened.
I cannot go through all the films that will be shown over the six days,… but let me just quickly introduce the opening film 'Inna de Yard - the Soul of Jamaica'.
The film was directed by Peter Webber who is best known for directing 'Hannibal Rising',… it's a documentary film about legendary Jamaican reggae musicians,… in which reggae music and the performers' touching stories are set against a backdrop of beautiful Jamaican scenery.
The film will be screened just after the opening ceremony which will take place this evening at 7 PM.
And Jung-hwan, I have heard there are plenty of other things going on besides the movies?
Yes. Just like many other global film festivals,… the JIMFF celebrates Korea's warm midsummer days and nights with a packed program.
To introduce a few events,... there's music from renowned performers such as Heize and Wheesung. At the 'One Summer Night' event, visitors can enjoy musical performances on an outdoor stage.
And besides the dazzling music concerts for the fans,… visitors can have a chance to connect with artists at a live show.
Charming artists and guests at the 'JIMFF Live Music Talk' will tell stories and explain the reasons behind their work.
Visitors can also enjoy other activities such as music film quizzes, 3-minute caricatures, and a hard liquor adventure
