Japanese PM Abe urges Seoul to uphold 1965 treaty over wartime compensation

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has accused South Korea of violating the 1965 normalization treaty with Tokyo,... and has urged Seoul to start upholding it.
Speaking at a news conference Tuesday, Abe said South Korea has "unilaterally" breached the accord,...which he says settled the issue of compensation of wartime laborers during Japan's decades-long colonial rule of Korea.
He said the treaty is what served as the basis for the two countries to normalize ties.
He added the biggest issue between Seoul and Tokyo is trust and whether promises that are made are kept.
