Ocean Heat Waves Are Becoming More Common
  • 5 years ago
A new study shows climate change is already pushing large portions of the oceans outside their normal bounds. The study was released in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The study's authors say these ocean heat waves can wreak havoc on fisheries and the livelihoods associated with them, Gizmodo reports. The study saw a dramatic upswing in surprise heat waves since the 1980s, particularly in the Arctic and Atlantic. The pace of hot surprises appears to have accelerated since 2010 in the Pacific and Indian oceans as well.
