The Asia-Pacific region faces security risks as the rising tension between South Korea and Japan is threatening trilateral security cooperation with the U.S.
According to the latest report by the U.S. Congressional Research Service,… four events, including South Korea's termination of an agreement over wartime sexual slavery and Japan's export curbs against South Korea,... have caused Seoul-Tokyo ties to deteriorate, making trilateral security cooperation more complicated.
The report explained how the three-way security alliance has grown from efforts to dismantle North Korea's nuclear weapons program to countering China's growing military assertiveness in the region.
It also anticipated another possible setback,... mentioning Seoul's threat to end a military information sharing agreement with Japan.
