Program trading on Korea's secondary stock index, the Kosdaq, was halted for five minutes this afternoon as shares plunged over the Japan trade tensions.
The Korea Exchange, which operates the Kosdaq, says the so-called "sidecar" measure was activated at 2-oh-9 PM when the index was down around 6 percent.
The measure is used to prevent wild fluctuations on the stock and futures markets.
Trading resumed, and the Kosdaq continued to fall, ending down more than 7-point-3 percent at just under 571 points.
That's a level not seen in more than 4 and a half years.
