During the US/USSR summit in Washington D.C, President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev signed the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty on Dec 8, 1987. In August 2019, the United States withdrew from this agreement under President Donald Trump.
