Injuries and arrests as police attempt to clear protesters from Hong Kong's streets

There have been many injuries and arrests in Hong Kong as police make a final push to clear protesters from the streets.

Some of the most violent clashes have been in the Sai Wan area, near the China Liaison Office -- a symbol of Beijing's rule over the territory.

While most protesters have acted peacefully -- and many have now gone home -- a few have armed themselves with stones, sticks and even metal bars.

None of the large protests today was authorised by the authorities, who had permitted just one static sit-in in a public square in the business district.
