Hong Kong protesters erect barricades in Causeway Bay

Protesters in Hong Kong have been constructing barriers in the Causeway Bay shopping district.

Protesters passed bags of cable ties to activists who used them to tie metal barriers together. Many of the young activists were wearing face masks and hard hats.

The theme of the protest is opposition to what protesters claim is police brutality against demonstrators at previous demonstrations.

The gathering at Causeway Bay has so far been peaceful. Another gathering close to the China Liaison Office -- a symbol of Beijing's rule over Hong Kong -- has seen a tense standoff with riot police.

Both gatherings are unauthorised.
