MANILA - Malaysia is enforcing stricter regulations for barter traders in Sabah and Labuan specifically requiring Filipinos and other foreigners to present passports or seaman's books to be able to enter these areas. The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur said the new rule will take effect April 15. This is part of Malaysia's move to tighten border controls in Sabah following the bloody confrontation between Malaysian forces and armed followers of the sultanate of Sulu. The embassy advises Filipino traders to secure the required documents, noting they may be charged with various offenses including violation of Malaysia's immigration, smuggling and anti-trafficking in person laws.
