Drug Overdose
Fatalities Have
Dropped in the US According to new data
from the CDC, overdoses
killed 68,500 in 2018. That's a small but welcoming drop from 72,000 in 2017. Until 2018, the number of deaths related to drug overdosing had increased each year for awhile. From 1999 to 2017,
annual numbers
rose by 55,000. The news from the CDC
isn't all good though. The data goes on to show that deaths from cocaine and methamphetamines rose in recent years. In 2018, cocaine killed 15,700 people, which is an increase of 700
a year before. Last year, meth and other psychostimulants also
led to 13,000 deaths. In 2017, the
number was 10,800.
