Pastora: “Ortega was not the president but the spokesperson”

Managua, Jul 18 (EFE), (Camera: Renée Lucía Ramos).- Forty years after the Sandinista revolution inNicaragua, Eden Pastora, known as “Commander Zero” and one of the “guerrilla leaders” of the movement, reflected on the past and future of the Latin American country.

Pastora was one of the fighters that led the Sandinista commando that assaulted the National Palace in an action that ended with the release of dozens of political prisoners on August 22, 1978, almost a year before the total defeat of Anastasio Somoza Debayle on July 19, 1979.

“THOSE THREE WERE THE ONES WHO THWARTED THE REVOLUTION IN 1980 ALTHOUGH THEY MADE MISTAKES, THE WORKERS AND PEASANTS WERE DIGNIFIED. APART FROM THAT, IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THAT THERE WASN´T A PRESIDENTIAL GOVERNMENT, IT WAS A COLLECTIVE MOVEMENT AND THAT DANIEL ORTEGA WASN´T THE PRESIDENT. WE KNOW THAT FOR SURE. WHO WAS DANIEL ORTEGA? HE WAS THE SPOKESPERSON OF THE ORGANIZATION, WHO MADE EFFORTS TO JUSTIFY THE MISTAKES MADE BY  LUIS CARRION, JAIME WILLOCH, AND HENRY RUIZ”
