China promotes tourism in Xinjiang region where detentions of Muslims continue

 Xinjiang’s tourism bureau has announced plans to attract 300 million visitors to the region in western China by 2020, aiming to rake in 600 billion yuan (US$87 billion) in travel-related revenue.  Tourism has already been on the rise the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, which has been overshadowed by reports of mass detentions of ethnic Muslim minorities in re-education camps in the area.
