Delhi to fight pollution with 11,000 electric buses:

Highlights of Pilot project:
• 3 electric buses from 3 different manufacturers have started their testing on Delhi roads
a) PMI-Photon Company - 13 Nov 2018 - Route 522: Ambedkar Nagar, Indrapuri (Krishi Kunj).
b) JBM Solaris - 27 Nov 2018 – Route: Teevra Mudrika Sewa (TMS)
c) Olectra Greentech-BYD - 27 Dec 2018 - Route 534: Between Anand Vihar ISBT & Mehrauli

• On 11 July 2018, the Delhi government approved, in principal, running 1,000 low-floor AC electric buses in the city which would cost Rs 2,870 crore
• AC CNG low-floor buses that are currently running on Delhi roads cost around Rs 85 lakh each, while an AC electric bus costs Rs 2.5 crore,” the 2016 report said.
• Each bus cost approx 2.87 crores. Will get reduced when made in India.
• Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS), which currently operates cluster buses in the city, as the consultant for the project.
• 1,000 Electric Bus and 2,000 CNG buses will be introduced in 2019
• Another 11,000 buses required by Delhi and all of this will be electric.
• The transport department will construct six special bus depots for these buses —
a) East Vinod Nagar,
b) Bawana Sector-5,
c) Burari,
d) Rohini Sector-37,
e) Revla Khanpur and Narela.
• Launch date July 2019
• Noiseless bus.
• Range 250 to 280kms.
• Full charge in 4 hrs.
• Regenerative brakes.
• CCTV in the bus.
• Bus can raise, lower and tilt itself hydraulically.
• Differently-abled friendly bus.
• Safety features: Fire extinguishers, glass breaking hammers, first aid kits, public address system
• Future buses will be made in India thus lowering cost. MoU for this signed.
• All future buses will be electric buses.
Cost reduction features:
• Once the bus is made in India and getting subsidies the cost of bus will be equal to similar premium petrol/diesel bus.
• Smaller batteries could be used on smaller routes to reduce cost.
• Non-AC buses could be used where non-ac buses ply.
Specification of the e-Bus.
1. Range of the bus is 250 to 280kms (whereas most Delhi petrol buses travel just 200kms/day)
3. Batteries are under the seating area thus freeing up more space for people & luggage.
4. Unlike CNG & Diesel bus Electric-Bus requires ZERO maintenance.
5. Unlike CNG & Diesel bus Electric-Bus is noiseless and suitable for very comfortable long-distance travel and can promote tourism to a very large extent.
The government is planning to have multilevel depots with charging points similar to the bus depot in Beijing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, where a delegation from the transport department, including minister Kailash Gahlot, and DIMTS had gone on a five-day tour.
