Despite Objections Of Italian Government, Migrant Rescue Ships Heads Towards Port
  • 5 years ago
The migrant rescue ship Alan Kurdi is making its way towards the Italian port of Lampedusa.
The ship was named in honor of the Syrian boy whose body washed ashore at the height of the 2015 migrant crisis.
This, despite a warning from the country's far-right Interior Minister Matteo Salvini that it is closed.
According to CNN, it sets the scene for another standoff with Italian authorities.
They're attempting to prevent migrant rescue boats operating in the Mediterranean from docking in the country's ports.
