Japan’s famous Nara Park deer are dying from eating plastic

At least nine deer have died from swallowing plastic in Nara, Japan, a tourist hotspot that is home to ancient temples and shrines as well as more than 1,000 of the protected animals. The deer are considered to be a national treasure, but masses of plastic trash have been found in stomachs of those which died.  Officials from the wildlife group Nara Deer Preservation Foundation said the deaths may be linked to a surge in tourism in the area.
