Supreme Court rules that refusing visa to Korean-American singer Yoo Seung-jun is illegal
  • 5 years ago
South Korea's Supreme Court has ruled that it's illegal for the nation's immigration service to refuse an entrance visa for Korean-American singer, Yoo Seung-jun... also known as Steve Yoo.
Yoo debuted in Korea in 1997 and was embroiled in a huge controversy in 2001 for evading mandatory military service by acquiring U.S. citizenship.
And the Ministry of Justice prohibited Yoo from entering Korea based on article 11 of the Immigration Act, which states that the justice ministry can prohibit anyone it deems highly likely to engage in any conduct harming the interests or public security of Korea.
It's been 17 years since he laid foot in Korea.... and Yoo has been wanting to return to Korea and restart his entertainment career here.
His visa application was turned down in 2015,... prompting him to file a lawsuit against the Korean government.
And the court's ruling today means he can now appeal the 2015 ruling.
