Once an important part of China’s rise, feminism is turning into a thorn in the side of the Communist Party.

Leta Hong Fincher, author of the new book Betraying Big Brother: The Feminist Awakening in China, tells Inkstone about the evolution of feminism in China – from an integral part of the revolution, to the jailing of the Feminist Five.

And more recently, China has been going through its own #MeToo moment, as male academics and celebrities are accused of sexual misconduct by women.

But can the movement survive in a nation where control is key?
