Arizona Governor Withdraws Financial Incentives for Nike After Cancellation of ‘Betsy Ross Flag’ Sneakers Nike’s decision to pull it’s new shoe, which features a
Betsy Ross flag, has not been well received by many,
including Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. Nike reportedly made the decision to pull the shoe
after Colin Kaepernick commented on the flag’s
association with racist ideals. In a tweet on July 2, Governor Ducey
expressed that he found Nike’s decision
to be a “shameful retreat for the company.” Doug Ducey, via Twitter Ducey went on to say that in response, he would
be ordering the Arizona Commerce Authority to
withdraw the state’s financial incentives for Nike. Doug Ducey, via Twitter The company was scheduled to build a
manufacturing plant in the state, which
would have provided 500 jobs to residents. Arizona had originally promised to waive nearly
$1 million in review and permit fees and reimburse Nike up to $1 million for the jobs they would create.
