Pharmacology is the study of drug actions or reactions, biologically speaking. In reference as to what a drug is in this study; we are referring to any man-made drug, natural drug, or any drug that is endogenous from within the body, a molecule that creates a biochemical or physiological effect on a cell, tissue, organ, or organism. Simply put; it is the study of changes in normal or abnormal biochemical functions of the body after a drug has been introduced into the body or a living organism. Any substance with medicinal properties is considered a pharmaceutical.
According to Wikipedia in reference to pharmacology and I quote “The field encompasses drug composition and properties, synthesis and drug design, molecular and cellular mechanisms, organ/systems mechanisms, signal transduction/cellular communication, molecular diagnostics, interactions, toxicology, chemical biology, therapy, and medical applications and anti-pathogenic capabilities. The two main areas of pharmacology are pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. Pharmacodynamics studies the effects of a drug on biological systems, and Pharmacokinetics studies the effects of biological systems on a drug. “
These two fields of pharmacology; pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics discuss the chemicals with biological receptors, and discuss the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) of chemicals from any biological system respectively.
