The number of South Koreans living alone is rising at a faster clip than anticipated... and the trend is likely to continue even as South Korea's population begins to contract.
According to a report by KB Financial Group,... the number of single-person households in South Korea surpassed 5-point-6 million in 2017,... some eleven percent of the total population.
It's also higher... than the previous estimate of 5-point-5 million.
South Korea's population is forecast to enter a natural decline phase in 2028,... due a steady drop in the number of marriages and childbirths.
As a result,... single-person households are expected to take up 16 percent of South Korea's population by 2045.
