Extinction Rebellion protesters stop traffic and scale buildings in New York to protest climate emergency

Protesters from the Extinction Rebellion group held a protest in midtown Manhattan on Saturday, demanding action over the 'climate emergency'.

After gathering in Bryant Park they marched through central New York until they reached the New York Times' head office, where they scaled the building and a Port Authority building next door.

The protesters also blocked the street below, where police made a number of arrests.

A spokeswoman for Extinction Rebellion, Eve Mosher, said the group wants the media to report on "the climate emergency" so that "people can start pushing for more radical responses."
