Marijuana Use Increasing
Among Pregnant Women A study from the medical journal JAMA has
revealed that more pregnant women are using
marijuana, especially in the first trimester. The percentage of pregnant women using
marijuana increased from 3.4% in 2002 to 7% in 2017. Pregnant women also consistently reported
more medical marijuana use in the first trimester
than in later trimesters. Study authors,
via CNN The CDC states that most birth defects occur in the first trimester when organs are still forming. According to the study, the effects of marijuana
on fetal growth could be "more pronounced in
women who consume marijuana frequently,
especially in first and second trimesters."
