Lakers Scrambling to Free Up Salary-Cap Space
  • 5 years ago
Lakers Scrambling to Free Up Salary-Cap Space Los Angeles is attempting to restructure their
deal with New Orleans for Anthony Davis. The Lakers need $32.5 million in salary-cap room
to sign another max-salary free agent. The team needs to make up roughly
$9 million in contracts moved by July 6,
when the Davis trade is finalized. Los Angeles is trying to trade Mo Wagner,
Isaac Bonga and Jemerrio Jones. Wagner was the No. 25 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft
and has the most value of the available players. If successful, Kyle Kuzma and LeBron James
would be the only remaining
Lakers from last season. The Lakers are also looking at
purchasing second-round picks
in Thursday night's NBA draft. Those contracts would only count as
minimum salaries against the cap. The salary cap resets on
June 30, the official start
of NBA free agency.
