Underperform During Disappointing
Box Office Weekend 'Dark Phoenix' earned $33 million at
the domestic box office, the lowest
debut for an 'X-Men' film ever. 'The Secret Life of Pets 2' led the
U.S. box office with $47.1 million, one of the lowest opening weekends for
animation studio Illumination and Universal. 2016's 'The Secret Life of Pets' earned
$104.3 million in its opening weekend. 'Dark Phoenix' is the final installment in an
'X-Men' franchise that began in 2000. The film currently has just a 22% rating on
Rotten Tomatoes and a B- CinemaScore. 'Dark Phoenix' marks
Sophie Turner's debut
with the franchise as Jean Gray. Amazon Studios' 'Late Night,' starring
Mindy Kaling, made its debut at four
locations in New York and Los Angeles. The film earned an
impressive average of $62,414
per-theater for $249,654 total.
