ХОТИНСКАЯ КРЕПОСТЬ | Khotyn fortress

The construction of stone fortifications of Khotin is usually associated with the Galician-Volyn principality and the name of Danilo Galitsky. Archaeological excavations in 1961-67. revealed stone walls of the castle of the XIII century.
In 1538, the Khotyn castle was captured by Polish troops, and the southern wall was blown up by mines during an assault. Under Moldavian Lord Peter Rareche, in 1541–1546, the destroyed part was rebuilt, the walls were moved further south, and an entrance tower was arranged in the middle of the new wall.
In modern times, please note that in this city can not catch mobile communications. If you go by bus, then go to the bus station, so as not to drive.
In Khotyn Fortress many popular adventure films were filmed: "The Viper" (1965), "The Arrows of Robin Hood" (1975)
