Thottappan is based on Francis Noronha’s eponymous novel and is scripted by PS Rafeeque. “We haven’t adapted the novel entirely into the movie. We have taken three characters from it and placed them in an entirely different world that we have created. However, the emotions of these characters from Francis’ novel is kept intact,” says Shanavas. While Thottappan is made on a larger canvas than his previous movie Kismath, the filmmaker says, “It’s a simple family-oriented movie that also has romance and would connect with all types of audience; but it’s not a typical commercial film.” The team has already shot for 50 days and will wind up the final schedule on December 24. Lal, Manoj K Jayan, Dileesh Pothan and Raghunath Paleri are also part of the film.
