Louisiana Expected to Pass
Fetal Heartbeat Abortion Ban The Louisiana House of Representatives passed
the abortion ban on May 29 with a 79 to 23 vote. The ban prohibits women from terminating
a pregnancy after a fetal heartbeat is detected. It does allow abortions if the pregnancy is “medically
futile” or presents a serious risk to the woman. The House rejected an amendment that would
have allowed an exception to the ban in cases
of impregnation by rape or incest. Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards
announced his intent to sign the bill in a statement,
describing himself as a “pro-life” candidate. John Bel Edwards,

the fifth state to pass a fetal heartbeat abortion ban.
