Children That Read at a Young Age Will have a Bigger Vocabulary
  • 5 years ago
The study, published in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, collected 60 popular
kids books. They then counted the words
in all of them. They found that books targeted towards infants had an average of 140 words. Books for toddlers
had 228. After calculations, the team
says if just one book is read
to a child on a daily basis they will know hundreds of thousands more words than kids who aren't read to once they reach kindergarten. The team from Ohio State University
says just one book is needed to teach
a child nearly 300,000 new words. They will know 1.4 million more words
if they are read five books.
