Pres. Moon says he will actively call for summit meeting with Kim Jong-un

문 대통령, '북한 발사, 군사긴장완화 도움 안돼',... '북한에 적극 회담 제안할 것'

Marking 2 years since taking office,... President Moon Jae-in held a TV interview with a local broadcaster moments ago.
From North Korea to local politics,... he looked back on his administration's successes and shortfalls thus far.
Topping the discussions was course North Korea's surprise firing of projectiles.
We start things off with Shin Se-min standing by on the line.
Se-min.
The president's first TV interview with a local media came to a close moments ago-- and a lot to digest.
First, as you have mentioned,... today's firing of an unidentified projectiles by North Korea topped the talks tonight.
The president said it is premature to conclude that Pyeonyang had violated UN Security Council resolutions prohibiting it from using ballistic missile technology,... but did say that both Seoul and Washington believe the North had fired 'short-range missiles' today.
And despite two consecutive instances of what appears to be provocations from the North, all happening in such a short period of time,... President Moon says he sees such actions as a show of the regime expressing its discontent over the outcome of the Hanoi summit in February.
"These are seen as planned actions. But at the same time, the North is trying its best not to wreck dialogue. In the past, the North had used belligerent expressions to intimidate the international community, but this time the regime said that it test-fired tactical strategic weapons, keeping it low key."
But the president did say that he wants to warn the North that the nuclear talks may be in jeopardy if such actions continues.
And as for another sit-down with North Korea's Kim Jong-un,... the president said it is now time.
Listen to this.
"We are not rushing North Korea for talks, but since events have turned the way they are now, we are actively engaging with Pyeongyang for a summit and plan on keep pushing for dialogue.”
Sounds like we may have to prepare ourselves for another diplomatically charged months ahead
He did say that he is willing to pursue with food aid to the North.
He did indeed.
President Moon dangled the idea of sending rice to the North,... saying there's a huge amount of rice in stock here in the South.
And to do that-- he said he hopes to hold a dialogue with rival political parties to discuss Seoul's humanitarian move.
This,... coming at a time when political parties at the parliament are locking horns over whether or not to process the reform bills,... so it does seem like the president's plan may hit some hard wall.
But he did add that he hopes such humanitarian support to the North will also work as a way of putting a speed to an impasse on the nuclear talks.
And apart from the North Korea related issues,... the president also pressed upon some of the pending issues including the economy, the local politics as well.
