Tiger Woods receives Presidential Medal of Freedom from Donald Trump
  • 5 years ago
U.S. President Donald Trump has awarded Tiger Woods with the nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, praising him as a "global symbol of American excellence".
Trump said this award is for Woods' accomplishment in the sport of golf, and also his comeback in sports and life.
Woods' successful comeback at Augusta National Golf Club restored his stature as one of golf's greatest champions, and comes after years of struggle from back injury as well as past difficulties in his personal life.
"I've battled. I've tried to, I try to hang in there and I've tried to come back in and play, play the great game of golf again. I've been lucky enough to have had the opportunity do it again and I found a game that has allowed me to do this and the amazing Masters experience that I just had a few weeks ago. Certainly it is part of the highlight of what I've accomplished so far in my life on the golf course to have had that type of experience and to be able to come out on top and win."
